Biography

Abdon, the son of Hillel the Pirathonite, was the last of the "minor" judges, succeeding Elon and judging Israel eight years (Judges 12:13–14). His record, like those of the other minor judges, emphasizes a large and prosperous family: he "had forty sons and thirty nephews, that rode on threescore and ten ass colts." He was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim. His judgeship closes the run of minor judges just before the era of Samson.
