Biography

Enoch, the seventh generation from Adam, is one of only two people in Scripture said never to have died. In a violent, fading world before the flood, he stands out as a man of extraordinary intimacy with God.

He walked with God

Twice Genesis says simply, "Enoch walked with God" (Genesis 5:22, 24) — a phrase capturing a life of close, daily fellowship. After 365 years, "he was not; for God took him." Hebrews explains: "By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death… for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God" (Hebrews 11:5).

An early prophet

Jude preserves Enoch's prophecy of coming judgment: "Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all" (Jude 1:14–15) — making him one of the earliest named prophets. The father of Methuselah, Enoch became a lasting biblical emblem of the believer who pleases God and is received into His presence.
