Biography
Micah of Moresheth prophesied in Judah during the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah — a contemporary of Isaiah. He spoke for the poor and oppressed against the corrupt leaders, priests, and prophets who "build up Zion with blood" (Micah 3:9–11).
The Bethlehem prophecy
Micah is most famous for foretelling the birthplace of the Messiah: "But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah... out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting" (Micah 5:2) — the very verse the chief priests quoted to Herod's wise men (Matthew 2:5–6).
What the LORD requires
His book also gives one of Scripture's great summaries of true religion: "what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?" (Micah 6:8). A century later, the elders cited Micah's preaching to defend Jeremiah (Jeremiah 26:18).
