Biography

Amoz is known only as the father of the prophet Isaiah, named repeatedly in the formula "Isaiah the son of Amoz" (Isaiah 1:1; 2 Kings 19:2). He should not be confused with the prophet Amos, whose name is spelled differently in Hebrew. Jewish tradition associates Amoz with the royal house of Judah, which may explain Isaiah's ready access to the kings of Jerusalem.
