Overview
Cana of Galilee is known from the Gospel of John as the place of Jesus' first miracle and the home of the disciple Nathanael.
Water into wine
At a wedding feast in Cana the wine ran out, and at his mother's prompting Jesus had the servants fill six stone jars with water, which became wine. "This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him" (John 2:11).
The nobleman's son
Cana was also where Jesus, returning from Judea, healed the son of a royal official who lay sick at Capernaum — speaking the word from a distance so that "thy son liveth" (John 4:46–53). John counts this his second sign done in Cana.
Home of Nathanael
The Gospel notes that Nathanael, one of the Twelve, came from Cana of Galilee (John 21:2).
