Overview
Mount Hermon is the towering, snow-capped peak at the northern end of the land, marking the limit of Israel's conquests and feeding the springs of the Jordan.
The northern boundary
Hermon was the northern edge of the territory taken from Og — Joshua smote the land "even unto mount Hermon" (Joshua 11:17; 12:1). The Sidonians called it Sirion, the Amorites Shenir (Deuteronomy 3:8–9).
The dew of Hermon
Its abundant snow and dew made it a byword for refreshment and blessing: "as the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing" (Psalm 133:3). With Tabor it is said to "rejoice in thy name" (Psalm 89:12).
A high place near Caesarea Philippi
Its southern slopes overlook Caesarea Philippi, the region where Peter confessed Jesus as the Christ — and many regard a height of Hermon as a candidate for the Mount of Transfiguration.
