Overview
Troas (Alexandria Troas) was a major Roman port on the Aegean coast, near ancient Troy. It was the threshold from which the gospel crossed into Europe.
The Macedonian vision
At Troas "a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia... saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us" (Acts 16:8–9). At once they sought to go, "assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them."
Eutychus raised
Returning later, Paul preached at Troas until midnight; the young man Eutychus, asleep in a window, fell three storeys and died — but Paul embraced him and "his life is in him," and he was taken up alive (Acts 20:6–12).
The cloak and the books
From prison Paul asked Timothy to bring "the cloke that I left at Troas... and the books, but especially the parchments" (2 Timothy 4:13).
