Overview
Thyatira was a commercial town known for its trade guilds and its purple dye. It connects two scenes of the New Testament — Lydia's conversion and the fourth letter of Revelation.
Lydia of Thyatira
At Philippi, "a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God," heard Paul, "whose heart the Lord opened," and she and her household were baptized — the first European convert (Acts 16:14–15).
The church and "Jezebel"
Christ, "who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire," commended the church's love, faith, and patience, "and the last to be more than the first" (Revelation 2:18–19).
A sharp warning
But he rebuked them for tolerating "that woman Jezebel," who seduced his servants into immorality and idolatry, calling them to "hold fast till I come" and promising the overcomer authority over the nations and "the morning star" (Revelation 2:20–28).

Archaeology & History
Thyatira (modern Akhisar) was a manufacturing town whose many trade guilds — including the dyers of the famous "Thyatiran purple" that Lydia sold — dominated civic life. Guild feasts bound to pagan worship help explain the letter's concern over compromise with idolatry.
