תִּקְוָה

Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee. bring: Heb. gather

And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.

Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have an husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have an husband also to night, and should also bear sons; should have: or were with an husband

Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?

So the poor hath hope, and iniquity stoppeth her mouth.

Oh that I might have my request; and that God would grant me the thing that I long for! the thing: Heb. my expectation

My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, and are spent without hope.

So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish:

And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety.

But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost. they shall: Heb. flight shall perish from them the giving: or, a puff of breath

For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.

The waters wear the stones: thou washest away the things which grow out of the dust of the earth; and thou destroyest the hope of man. washest: Heb. overflowest

And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it?

He hath destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and mine hope hath he removed like a tree.

For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he hath gained, when God taketh away his soul?

For the needy shall not alway be forgotten: the expectation of the poor shall not perish for ever.

My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.

For thou art my hope, O Lord GOD: thou art my trust from my youth.

The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perisheth.

The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.

Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying. for: or, to his destruction: or, to cause him to die

For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off. end: or, reward

So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.

Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him. words: or, matters?

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. expected: Heb. end and expectation

And there is hope in thine end, saith the LORD, that thy children shall come again to their own border.

He putteth his mouth in the dust; if so be there may be hope.

Now when she saw that she had waited, and her hope was lost, then she took another of her whelps, and made him a young lion.

Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts.

And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.

Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even to day do I declare that I will render double unto thee;
