Biography
Hur was a trusted leader who stood close to Moses in the early days of the Exodus. In the battle against Amalek at Rephidim, when Israel prevailed only while Moses' hands were raised, "Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side" until the victory was won (Exodus 17:12).
A man of responsibility
When Moses ascended Mount Sinai, he left Aaron and Hur in charge of the people: "if any man have any matters to do, let him come unto them" (Exodus 24:14). Hur was the grandfather of Bezaleel, the chief craftsman of the tabernacle (Exodus 31:2), placing him among the honored families of Judah in the wilderness generation.
