1 Peter 5:7
5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
KJV
casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
Casting all your care on him; for he cares for you.
What does 1 Peter 5:7 mean?
Peter invites believers to hand their every anxiety over to God — because he genuinely cares for them.
"Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you." A short verse with a deep comfort.
Context
Peter writes to suffering Christians, calling them to humble themselves "under the mighty hand of God" (1 Peter 5:6). Verse 7 is grammatically tied to that humbling: casting our cares on God is itself an act of humility — admitting we are not in control and he is.
Key words
"Casting" pictures throwing a burden off oneself onto another, decisively. "All your care" leaves nothing out — every anxiety. The reason is tender and personal: "he careth for you" — God is not indifferent; our worries matter to him because we do.
How it has been read
Believers have found here a practical discipline: not merely to stop worrying, but to actively transfer each anxiety to God in prayer (compare Philippians 4:6-7). The ground of it is God's fatherly care — we can let go because he will not.
