לְאֹם

And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.

Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother's sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.

Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? rage: or, tumultuously assemble imagine: Heb. meditate

So shall the congregation of the people compass thee about: for their sakes therefore return thou on high.

And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness.

How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out.

Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head among the people.

He shall subdue the people under us, and the nations under our feet.

I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: I will sing unto thee among the nations.

Which stilleth the noise of the seas, the noise of their waves, and the tumult of the people.

O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah. govern: Heb. lead

And gave them the lands of the heathen: and they inherited the labour of the people;

I will praise thee, O LORD, among the people: and I will sing praises unto thee among the nations.

Kings of the earth, and all people; princes, and all judges of the earth:

To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people;

He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.

In the multitude of people is the king's honour: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.

Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people. to any: Heb. to nations

He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him:

Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters! multitude: or, noise mighty: or, many

The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind. a rolling: or, thistledown

Come near, ye nations, to hear; and hearken, ye people: let the earth hear, and all that is therein; the world, and all things that come forth of it. all that: Heb. the fulness thereof

Keep silence before me, O islands; and let the people renew their strength: let them come near; then let them speak: let us come near together to judgment.

Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life. life: or, person

Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who among them can declare this, and shew us former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear, and say, It is truth.

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name.

Hearken unto me, my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation: for a law shall proceed from me, and I will make my judgment to rest for a light of the people.

Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people.

For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.

Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the people shall labour in vain, and the folk in the fire, and they shall be weary. The broad: or, The walls of broad Babylon broken: or, made naked

Behold, is it not of the LORD of hosts that the people shall labour in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves for very vanity? for: or, in vain?
